So I got into an argument today with some of my friends about what was the best rap album put together from top to bottom of all times. The three arguments that rose up were for Jay Z's Blueprint (The first one), Nas's Illmatic, and finally Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III. I would have to say I love all of them in a different way and for me it is hard to compare any of these artists because I think each of them is the best at what they do. Here is the latest from those that bring you "Party music for all those looking to get down on the dance floor." In my opinion this is one of my least favorite White Panda mixes. If you're going to put Beastie Boys on a track, you need to go all out to actually improve it. The chorus isn't even used in this remix, and it really just has a weak feel. Definitely doesn't hit as hard as most of their stuff. A rare miss.

Here is an incredibly sick Radiohead cover by possibly the hottest band right now, Vampire Weekend. I love Radiohead's version, and Vampire Weekend takes a very similar approach musically, but they use a couple different instruments (notably the maracas). There is also a dope drum solo about halfway through. Covering Radiohead has got to be one of the hardest things to do, and VW pulls it off:

I normally don't listen to or download much techno but I know how well respected Deadmau5 is as a DJ. This song is 10:37 long but don't make the mistake of not giving it a shot. It crescendos the whole way through and by the time you hit ~6:50 I would be shocked if you didn't find your head bobbing Night At the Roxbury-style. Definitely listen to this the whole way through, esp your first time playing...and have it on Loud.

As I go back and listen to Wale pre-record deal, I realize how much of a disappointment Attention Deficit was/is. Though I admit I like the album, it is nothing like what I imagined his first album would be. I think he must have had too many influences and outside pressure going into AD because it sounds nothing like what is produced when Wale is on his own, going about his shit naturally. Here is a track off his mixtape "Back to the Feature," there is an obvious degree of elevated enthusiasm, swagger, and just it's just better hip hop in my opinion. I used to look to Wale to pump me up. I knew if I put Wale on shuffle at a party, the party would get crazier. Wale used to have that immediate effect no doubt. I wouldn't turn on the majority of tracks off AD at a party. I hope we get to see more of the rapper I thought Wale was, and less of this slowed down, held-back Wale.

I came across this track over twitter from @trillbau. "Soundclash of the Titans" is just under 20mins of absolute musical madness/dj genius. There are countless samples, changes of pace, changes in style...this track has everything. Samples are from Zeppelin to Clipse to Beastie Boys to Johnny Cash and everything in between. PMS first caught my attention with their dope single "FML" which sampled Passion Pit (always a good move). I found them appealingly laid back and very lyrically different. When I saw they had released their 2nd mixtape yesterday I immediatly copped and listened to it all the way through...and then I couldn't help but throw it on again. These three 19U year-olds from Cleveland Heights, OH have swagger, and more importantly a shit ton of talent. They are in my top quadrant for who to look out for in '10. This mixtape has the feel of a full length, record deal album in the very best sense. Even the album cover blows my mind:

Artist of the Decade: Radiohead

I have been considering doing some sort of "Best of the Decade" list. Not sure if it would be best artists, songs, or both. One thing I know for sure is that Radiohead is in my opinion the best/most influential band of this decade. With Kid A (2000), Amnesiac (2001), Hail To The Thief (2003), and In Rainbows (2007) all coming out in the span, I can declare the award with unbelievable certainty. Radiohead was even featured in my favorite South Park episode "Scott Tenorman Must Die" (aired in 2001).

A few months ago Thom Yorke stated that he, and Radiohead were done producing albums because he was afraid they had peaked and were drained of all which they could provide musically. Since then however, the band has released a couple singles and announced that they have begun work on another album! I can not wait to see what they have in store for us in the upcoming decade. John Frusciante Leaving RHCP

This past week I read that John Frusciante (guitarist, third from the right) has left quite possibly my favorite band of all time, THE Red Hot Chili Peppers. This broke my heart. I know all great things must come to an end, but I thought RHCP was exempt from this rule. NOTE: The band is not breaking up entirely, quite the opposite in fact; they are hard at work on a new album. Frusciante has left them before (in 1992 he was overwhelmed with the band's popularity and entered a heroin-addicted solo career). Once he had been rehabilitated, he returned to the band in 1999, and created: Californication, By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium. This is quite possibly the band's best stretch of albums. Either way it is very obvious the increase in music quality when Frusciante is the one melting faces. He is ranked 18th on Rolling Stone's "Best Guitarists of All-Time" list. Anyways, this article led me to listen to some of his solo stuff, one thing led to another and I compiled a few tracks to put on this post (one of which is by Frusciante, and the others being connected even though it is impossibly unobvious):

Vocalist Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis have come together to create The VS. EP. A concept album sampling artists such as Beirut, The Killers, The Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.

The album was originally supposed to come out on November 27th but the wait has been well worth it. Macklmore just has very deep meaningful lyrics that I can relate to. Ryan Lewis makes beats that are very soothing on the ears. The combination of the two is golden. Be on the look out for these guys in the future.

The White Panda is the Lance Armstrong of mixing music (and one more testicle). They take 2-3 well known songs, throw them into a blender, hit start, and by the end, they pour a homogeneous mixture of gold into a cup which happens to be your headphones. Flipsyde unfortunately just broke up due to them being dropped from there record label. Since they got dropped they never release there most recent album in the US. This track was never released and i really enjoyed it. It has a very relaxing back to it. If you haven't ever check out any of there other work, I would definately take a look at there We the People album. It has amazing tracks on it.

So each week I am going to make a post on one of my favorite artists who I think may be under the radar of you Carpe heads. Up first is one of my personal favorites: The Shins. This indie band was formed in New Mexico of all places, and first received some attention when they went on tour with Modest Mouse back in 2000. They were then featured in the movie Garden State which won Soundtrack of The Year in 2004. I tried to pick some from each of the album, so if you notice a slight change in style, that's why. Relish.

Came across this song 'Trippy' featuring Cudder just because I listen to all things Cudi. Initially it seemed slow, but after a few listens I was trippin' as hard as the chorus. Very addictive track. I'm also throwing in a new one from CL-SICK as a bonus because the song just goes off. And finally, an instant classic from Stunnaman himself, Drugs. From Trippy to MDMA...Thizz or Die you BEEZY.

I thought I'd give out a taste of some of the best Indie tunes out there right now. Each one of these artists reeks of talent. Bon Iver is definitely the hottest thing to hit the Indie scene in a while, so hop on the bearded bandwagon if you haven't already. The XX is a British duo I happen to come across over the summer, and have actually seen a lot of their stuff getting remixed. Crystalised is my favorite of their stuff.
