There comes a time in everyone's life when they need something to give them a good kick in the butt and re-energize their sleeping passion. This Chiddy Bang new leak off their upcoming mixtape "Air Swell" has done just that for me and although it has been awhile since I've posted something, I believe that this could be just the thing to get me going again. Xaphoon and Chiddy you did it again!!

Here is the absolutely latest from the duo Chiddy Bang. Both guys more than play their part on this track, the remix of Ellie Goulding blows minds and Chiddy's flows will make your jaw drop. Can not wait for the mini mixtape followed by the Full-Length Album:

So I got into an argument today with some of my friends about what was the best rap album put together from top to bottom of all times. The three arguments that rose up were for Jay Z's Blueprint (The first one), Nas's Illmatic, and finally Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III. I would have to say I love all of them in a different way and for me it is hard to compare any of these artists because I think each of them is the best at what they do. I wanted to hear what your thoughts were on this argument. Hit up a comment and leave what you think is the best rap album ever made from top to bottom.

Definitely just a great song as mentioned earlier...Here's the official video.

Here are a couple tracks I came across over at 2dopeboyz. J.Cole is really starting to come into his own, and Charles Hamilton is the rapper (and mixtape king) I am most surprised hasn't blown up from last year's rookie class. Both rappers are very lyrically driven and always have dope samples:

Virtually unknown prior to his hit "No Hoe," D-Lo has become so popular that Snoop Dogg hopped on the track for a remix. I go dumb to the original, but I go dumber to this:

You may recognize "She" from the films Elf or Yes Man. If you saw Yes Man you probably got a sense of her musical talent, specifically her amazing voice. She isn't only an acress but she is a part of an Indie Folk band named "She & Him." Here is a new song that is very indicative of their style. Thus far the duo has only come out with one album, entitled "Volume One." This is the first single I have come across from their 2nd project:

I'm a big fan of Grizzly Bear, covers, and Hot Chip so naturally would put this up on my blog. Saw it over at PMA.

Here is the latest from those that bring you "Party music for all those looking to get down on the dance floor." In my opinion this is one of my least favorite White Panda mixes. If you're going to put Beastie Boys on a track, you need to go all out to actually improve it. The chorus isn't even used in this remix, and it really just has a weak feel. Definitely doesn't hit as hard as most of their stuff. A rare miss.

These two songs are catchy as fuck. I'm really starting to get into this artist even though I was very skeptical at first. He has a very unique voice and solid beats. He produces the kind of music that can literally be played in any situation. I'm looking forward to his first album to drop after his two extremely successful mixtapes.

Here's the latest from the up-and-coming Curren$y. Following their mixtape together, Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y have really moved into the role of who to look out for. I got this track from a tweet by @RealWizKhalifa. It samples my personal favorite track of Gucci Mane's called Lemonade:

Feel free to leave a comment in the box with who's on your list. In the mean time here is a link to Complex Magazine's top 25:

So apparently Macklemore had a stay at home dad? I can understand why Macklemore/Ryan Lewis kept this off their dope "VS."-EP, but this is still an essential for any fan Macklemore's style. Released today via twitter by @Macklemore:

Here is an incredibly sick Radiohead cover by possibly the hottest band right now, Vampire Weekend. I love Radiohead's version, and Vampire Weekend takes a very similar approach musically, but they use a couple different instruments (notably the maracas). There is also a dope drum solo about halfway through. Covering Radiohead has got to be one of the hardest things to do, and VW pulls it off:

Vampire Weekend- Exit Music (For a Film)

I normally don't listen to or download much techno but I know how well respected Deadmau5 is as a DJ. This song is 10:37 long but don't make the mistake of not giving it a shot. It crescendos the whole way through and by the time you hit ~6:50 I would be shocked if you didn't find your head bobbing Night At the Roxbury-style. Definitely listen to this the whole way through, esp your first time playing...and have it on Loud.

Wale Trends

As I go back and listen to Wale pre-record deal, I realize how much of a disappointment Attention Deficit was/is. Though I admit I like the album, it is nothing like what I imagined his first album would be. I think he must have had too many influences and outside pressure going into AD because it sounds nothing like what is produced when Wale is on his own, going about his shit naturally. Here is a track off his mixtape "Back to the Feature," there is an obvious degree of elevated enthusiasm, swagger, and just it's just better hip hop in my opinion. I used to look to Wale to pump me up. I knew if I put Wale on shuffle at a party, the party would get crazier. Wale used to have that immediate effect no doubt. I wouldn't turn on the majority of tracks off AD at a party. I hope we get to see more of the rapper I thought Wale was, and less of this slowed down, held-back Wale.

Though this isn't necessarily new, I realized I hadn't posted my favorite mixtape of all time on my own god damn music blog. Here's the scoop from illinoize.biz:

Illinoize is a free remix tape put together by Montreal-based producer Tor, sampling songs from multi-instrumentalist and indie hero, Sufjan Stevens. Tracks are sampled from his 2005 LP Illinoise, as well as 3 of his other albums, 'A Sun Came', 'Seven Swans' and 'Songs for Christmas', blending Sufjan Steven's acoustic guitar, piano and horns with MC's Aesop Rock, Big Daddy Kane, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), C.L. Smooth, Outkast, Brother Ali, and Grand Puba.

Tor/Sufjan Stevens- IllinoiZe (FULL Mixtape)

Tracklist:

  1. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - Star of Wonder / None Shall Pass (f. Aesop Rock)
  2. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - Dumb I Sound / ATLiens (f. Outkast)
  3. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jr. / Specialize (f. Pete Rock & CL Smooth)
  4. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - The Tallest Man / I Like It (f. Grand Puba)
  5. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - Kill / Any Type of Way (f. Big Daddy Kane & DJ Premier)
  6. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - Night Zombies / Talkin' My Shit (f. Brother Ali)
  7. Tor / Sufjan Stevens - The Dress Looks Nice On You / Make You Feel That Way (f. Gift Of Gab)

Recent Indie

I've been making a lot of hip hop and dj posts recently and it's not because hip hop is all I listen to, it's simply because there's more of it out there right now. At the same time I put an indie playlist on my iTunes so that when I felt I had enough in there, I'd make a compound indie-ish post. So here it is. Includes new Citizen Cope, Andrew Bird, St. Vincent and James Yuill whom I haden't heard of until I found this song "This Sweet Love." It's definitely my favorite out of these but they're all worth checking out:

James Yuill- This Sweet Love
Justin Vernon- Hazelton
Cititzen Cope- Healing Hands
Cosmo Jarvis- She's Got You
Andrew Bird- Oh No
Generationals- Faces in the Dark
The National & St. Vincent- Sleep All Summer

I came across this track over twitter from @trillbau. "Soundclash of the Titans" is just under 20mins of absolute musical madness/dj genius. There are countless samples, changes of pace, changes in style...this track has everything. Samples are from Zeppelin to Clipse to Beastie Boys to Johnny Cash and everything in between. Great to party to, great in any situation, just make sure you have a set up with plenty of bass because that's really where this song excels. More to come from Z-Trip soon:

Z-Trip- Soundclash of the Titans

PMS first caught my attention with their dope single "FML" which sampled Passion Pit (always a good move). I found them appealingly laid back and very lyrically different. When I saw they had released their 2nd mixtape yesterday I immediatly copped and listened to it all the way through...and then I couldn't help but throw it on again. These three 19U year-olds from Cleveland Heights, OH have swagger, and more importantly a shit ton of talent. They are in my top quadrant for who to look out for in '10. This mixtape has the feel of a full length, record deal album in the very best sense. Even the album cover blows my mind:

A remix worth adding to your list of Money to Blow remixes. This time its done by the all-famous Vodka & Milk, making it completely percussion and digital chime driven. Check it:

Drake & Lil Wayne- Money to Blow (Vodka & Milk Remix)

Maino just released a song which is lyrically 1st person of Tiger Woods and obviously largely covers the recent controversy regarding Tiger. I would have posted this song even if I didn't like it very much because it's such an original idea, but I actually can rock to this track. Maino did a great job with it:

Maino- Tiger Woods

Here's a sick remix by the duo Bossasaurus of my personal favorite track by Aesop "None Shall Pass." Also included is a remix of the same song done by Tor featuring Sufjan Stevens which isn't as new but is a much different take, more relaxed and seems to bring more meaning out of the lyrics..for those who don't already have it:

Aesop Rock- None Shall Pass (Bossasaurus Rmx)
Tor/Sufjan Stevens- Star of Wonder / None Shall Pass (f. Aesop Rock)

Quick Update

Here's a quick update including three newly released full-length tracks off of The White Panda's Versus, a couple dope remixes, Wiz's chronic version of Pokerface ("SmokerFace"), and the latest from up-n-coming J. Cole, and Intuition.

BANGS

My new favorite YouTube video:

First of 2010

Though I'm pretty sure Gucci Mane is at least half retarded, I got a kick outta this one, plus I don't know anyone else who rocks a Bart Simpson chain. Also, I'm posting a Cousins remix (looking forward to Contra), and a gem I missed off No Ceilings:

"Gucci man do you remember me from last month? No. Girl I can't remember nothin' but mah last blunt."

Gucci Mane- The Movie
Vampire Weekend- Cousins (Toy Selectah Mex-More Remix)
Lil Wayne- Throw It In The Bag
